MYTH: Lactose intolerant children should not drink milk.

FACT: New guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics actually recommend that lactose intolerant children not only consume milk, but other dairy products such as cheese and yogurt. While tolerance varies among individuals, it is recommended to introduce small amounts of dairy to determine how much can be tolerated without triggering symptoms. This is especially important as many lactose intolerant children may not be getting enough calcium.
